Little Theatre readies Arthur Miller classic
The Little Theatre of Fall River
will present Arthur Miller's Tony Award-winning drama "The Crucible," as
the group continues its 66th mainstage season. The show will be presented
at 8 tonight through Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday.
All performances will be in the
Margaret L. Jackson Arts Center at Bristol Community College on Elsbree
Street in Fall River.
Winner of the 1953 Tony Award for best play, "The Crucible" is an exciting
drama about the Puritan purge of witchcraft in old Salem. It is both a
gripping historical play and a timely parable for our contemporary
society.
"The Crucible" shows, as
described by the New York Daily News: "how small lies -- children's lies
-- build and build until a whole town is aroused and 19 men and women go
to the gallows for being possessed of the Devil. They are good men and
women, upright, hardworking, compassionate and God-fearing.
"The story focuses upon a young
farmer, his wife and a young servant-girl who maliciously causes the
wife's arrest for witchcraft. The farmer brings the girl to court to admit
the lie -- and here in this trial scene, is the big moment.
"It is a thrilling,
bloodcurdling, terrifying scene, as it depicts the monstrous course of
bigotry and deceit. The farmer, instead of saving his wife, finds himself
also accused, imprisoned, and condemned."
The Little Theatre production is
directed by James Tavares Jr. Debbie Pelletier is the production's stage
manager.
Mr. Tavares has
been responsible for many Little Theater hits in past seasons, most
recently the group's acclaimed production of "Cabaret." Other recent
Little Theatre directorial highlights include "Anything Goes," "The Boys
Next Door" and "A Chorus Line."
"The Crucible" cast includes
Shandy Monte, Richard R. Pelletier, Elizabeth Texceira-Ward, Holly Costar,
Lauren Hopkins, Laura Bomback, William Soares, Megan McCaughey and Jaimie
Raposa.
Also in the
production are Daniel Davis Tripp, Fran Petisca, Jerry Goldberg, David C.
Faria, Linda Monchik, Clement Romano, Rocco Cannistraro, Jason Crowley,
