Little Theatre stages 'Blood Brothers'
The Little Theatre of Fall
River tonight raises the curtain on its production of the hit London
musical, "Blood Brothers." The show will be presented at 8 tonight through
Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Margaret L. Jackson Arts Center at
Bristol Community College on Elsbree Street in Fall River.
"Blood Brothers" is a
rags-to-riches story that makes a haunting musical tragedy of our times.
Mrs. Johnstone, deserted by her husband and with a houseful of children to
feed, learns she is expecting twins, whom she cannot possibly afford to
raise. She keeps house for the childless Mrs. Lyons, who, learning of her
plight, begs for one of the twins.
The two boys grow up
streets apart not knowing the truth, but becoming fast friends.
A Narrator, intruding like
Fate, warns that a "price has to be paid," offering a prophesy that twins
parted at birth will die on the day they find out their heritage.
Ron Robinson directs the
Little Theatre production with musical direction by Dennis Robinson. Jeff
Belanger choreographs the production. Beverly Robinson is the production's
stage manager, with Betty Ward as assistant director and Marlene Brabant
as the assistant stage manager.
"Blood Brothers" stars
Deborah Sadler, David Faria, Richard Bento, John Ashley and Vanessa
Raposa.
The
supporting cast includes Mr. Belanger, Veronique Sylvia and Michael
Xavier. The ensemble of "Blood Brothers" is made up of Lisa Denham, Terri
Couto, Katrina Ellsworth, Roger Belanger, Adam Lawrence, Peter Beausoleil,
Laura Brophy and Bing McGrath.
Little Theatre also
recently announced its lineup for the 2001 Firebarn Season.
Brian Friel's "Dancing at
Lughnasa" will be presented June 8-10 and 14-17. A musical review, "Blame
It On the Movies," is slated for July 13-22. A comedy, "Over the River and
Through the Woods," will take the stage Aug. 17-25. A musical version of
"It's a Wonderful Life," adapted by Fall River's own Joe Raposo, will be
presented Nov. 30-Dec. 9. Individual tickets and subscriptions are
available.
Single
tickets for "Blood Brothers" are $15, with discounts available for
students, seniors and groups of 20 or more.
