A musical tragedy about twins separated at birth. Mrs. Lyons, childless, persuades her cleaning lady, the over-burdened Mrs. Johnstone, to give over one of her twin sons. Good cannot come from this secret pact. Mrs. Lyons is a manipulator who blackmails Mrs. Johnstone, but she cannot control the son she raises. The knowledge of her perfidy and the frustration drive her mad. The issue at question here is nature versus nurture. A narrator intones the moral of the story "A price must be paid."
