The Foreigner is the story of Charlie, a shy Englishman, who is brought, much to his dismay, to the U.S. by his friend Froggy, who is here for training maneuver with his military outfit. Charlie's unfaithful wife lies deathly ill in an English hospital and Froggy believes Charlie needs a break from his constant vigil at her bedside. Froggy takes Charlie to a fishing lodge in rural Georgia, where Froggy has befriended the owner, a sweet old woman who is struggling to keep the lodge open. The pathologically shy Charlie, grieving over the impending loss of his wife, despite her years of infidelity, refuses to speak to anyone while at the lodge. So Froggy tells the guests of the lodge that Charlie is a foreigner who does not speak English. This sets the stage for the constant comedy as the folks around Charlie interpret all manner of accidents and behaviors as obvious signs of his foreignness, assuming they are part of some strange rituals known only to Charlie and his fellow countrymen, though Charlie's exact country of origin remains a mystery to all. To add to the fun, folks, assuming that Charlie can not understand them, speak freely around him and he is privy to secrets and plots that he should not be over hearing. The comedy and the suspense heighten as Charlie becomes aware of a plot to take over the lodge to make it the southern headquarters for The Ku Klux Klan.
