RIVER -- The Little Theatre of Fall River Inc. will present the
musical "George M!," a nostalgic, biographical tribute to George M.
Cohan, one of Broadway’s greatest theatrical showmen.
|
From his early years in vaudeville through his successes on
Broadway, "George M!" features the Cohan’s songs, including "Yankee
Doodle Dandy," "You’re A Grand Old Flag," "Give My Regards to
Broadway" and "Over There."
With the book by Michael Stewart
and John and Fran Pascal, as well as music and lyrics by Cohan,
"George M!" was featured on Broadway at the Palace Theater with Joel
Grey and Bernadette Peters.
The production is co-directed by
Jeff Belanger and Janice MacDonald, whose Little Theatre
co-directorial credits include "Jesus Christ Superstar," "The
Boyfriend," and "The Wiz." Musical direction is by Jane Fiore
Bigelow, with Belanger and MacDonald as co-choreographers. Beverly
Robinson is the production’s stage manager.
The show stars
Stephen Wrobleski in the title role, and features Bob Houde II and
Mary Halliday.
"George M!" is an old-fashioned Broadway
musical, filled with gigantic production numbers, big tap dances and
intimate soft-shoe routines.
"If there was one thing that
(Cohan) loved more than anything else after his country," said one
observer of the show, "it was Broadway."
"George M!" will be
staged at 8 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, May 15 to 17, and at 2
p.m. Sunday, May 18, at the Margaret L. Jackson Arts Center, Bristol
Community College, Elsbree Street. Tickets are $15, with discounts
available for students, seniors and groups of 20 or more.
For reservations and information, call the Little Theatre
box office at 508-675-1852.
