LTFR Cares - Friends of Saint Anne's Hospital

As part of the Little Theatre of Fall River’s ongoing effort to reach out to the community, many of its members have become involved with what has now become an annual event.

MTI presents the theatrical musical: GodspellSince 2004, the Friends of Saint Anne's Hospital have staged a variety of theatrical productions to benefit its $500,000 pledge to help underwrite radiation therapy technology in the hospital’s Hudner Oncology Center.  The Friends’ previous efforts have earned more than $50,000 in support of the Hudner Oncology Center.  For more than three decades, the Hudner Oncology Center has been the area’s leading provider of comprehensive cancer care, including advanced radiation therapy, hematology/oncology care, access to dozens of national clinical trials, and a spectrum of patient and family programs and services.  It continues to update its technology, expertise and availability of services, including the recently announced expansion of radiation therapy care in Fall River and North Dartmouth.

LTFR members have supported this major community project both on stage and off stage. Acting, back stage work, publicity, production, direction, choreography, costuming, lighting, set construction are just some of the tasks that the LTFR membership has been involved with in support of this important fund raising activity.

LTFR Cares - 2006 - 2007

By

Kelly Camara, LTC Chairperson

During the productions of “Thoroughly Modern Millie” and “Mrs. Goody”  there has been an sweet addition to the lobby area.   Peggy Deston, in an effort to reach out to our major contributor, Bank5, discovered that the bank had  an annual food drive in which proceeds go to the Department of Social Services.  Little Theatre of Fall River realizes that being the recipient of continuous generosity of businesses, as evidenced by our abundant main stage playbills, means giving back with open hearts and open minds. With this newfound collaboration with DSS, it has inspired us to continue.

Ms. Deston became the official pioneer of Little Theatre Cares.  Since then, a few more members of the Little Theatre family have stepped up to the plate, so to speak.  With Bank5 supporting, Peggy organized the food drive during “Millie,” Stacy Tinkham and Janice MacDonald organized the Secret Santa drive during “Goody.”  Both events were successful, in part due to many of Little Theatre members and the community at large.

At this time, a backpack campaign is underway.  Organized by Maryann Goulart and Betty Teixeira, the donation box in the lobby during all three summer productions, is hoped to be filled with school supplies this time around.   Needed are #2 pencils, pens, erasers, colored markers, colored pencils, crayons, safety scissors, glue sticks, notebooks, rulers and dictionaries.  Most of these items can be purchased minimally at dollar stores in the area.  Ms. Goulart and Ms. Teixeira have purchased the backpacks themselves, which will then be filled and donated to the Department of Social Services before the next school year.  Call the ticket line for details per show, starting with “Table Manners.”
