FALL RIVER -- Barbara Gerraughty is the first recipient of the Peg Panos Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service on behalf of The Little Theatre of Fall River.
Gerraughty received the award at The Little Theaters annual dinner meeting at the Quequechan Club. Martha Howarth, search committee chairwoman, said, "Peg loved theater and she loved Little Theater. Peg knew how many people it takes to put on a show and she marveled at how many behind the scenes people get involved." She said Panos wanted to recognize those people and through the generosity of her husband, Jim, and family, Little Theater will present the award in her memory yearly.
President Betty Teixeira conducted the business portion of the meeting. Committees gave their end-of-the-year reports and the following new slate of directors was approved for 2003-2004:
Jeff Belanger, president; Pat Taylor, vice president; Dee Kullander, recording secretary; Lisa Denham, corresponding secretary; John W. Cummings, treasurer; Beverly Robinson, business manager; Darlene Miller, fund-raising chairwoman; Kathy Castro, publicity chairwoman; Maryann Goulart, ticket chairwoman; Christine Roy, membership chairwoman/historian; Al Deston, playbill chairman; Janice MacDonald, play selection chairwoman; Roger Belanger, production chairman; Gerraughty and Teixeira, directors at large.
The shows for the new season, to be performed at Bristol Community College, are "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat," "Beau Jest" and "Evita."
Gerraughty has been a member of Little Theater since 1982. Her first appearance was in "Babes in Arms," but she was hardly a stranger to the stage. She and her sister, Arlene, appeared as the singing act, The Gaspar Sisters. Gerraughty has served as president, vice president, production chairwoman, membership chairwoman, director at large and now set supervisor for Little Theater.
She has been a volunteer for Hospice Outreach since 1995.
