RIVER -- Get ready for some high-octane, knee-slappin’ fun that will
warm your winter "innards" as the musical "Pump Boys and Dinettes"
begins the Little Theatre of Fall River’s 2003 offerings.
|
The production will be presented at 8 p.m. Jan. 16 to 18 and
Jan. 23 to 25 and at 2 p.m. Jan. 19 and 26. All performances will be
at the Firebarn, Little Theatre’s home, at the corner of Prospect
Street and Highland Avenue.
Conceived and written by the
team of John Foley, Mark Hardwick, Debra Monk, Cass Morgan, John
Schimmel and Jim Wann, "Pump Boys and Dinettes" is a roadside
musical tribute celebrating the value of friendship and life’s
simple pleasures.
On Highway 57 -- somewhere between Frog
Level and Smyrna -- stands a gas station. Across the blacktop is a
roadside eatery called the "Double Cupp Diner." The four guys at the
station have been known to do some auto repairs, but only when aided
by quantities of time and beer. The Cupp sisters celebrate their
home cooking with the same zeal they bring to being neighborly with
the boys.
This Broadway hit is a mixture of country, rock,
western-swing and folk music. It’s a musical comedy set in Grand Ole
Opry Country that will get your toes a-tappin’. The Cupp sisters
will tempt you with a second cup of coffee and a song, while the
Pump Boys will serenade you with songs like "The Night Dolly Parton
Was Almost Mine."
The cast of "Pump Boys and Dinettes"
includes John Ashley, Roger Belanger, Laura Donovan, David Faria,
Dennis Robinson and Veronique Sylvia.
The production is
directed by Ron Robinson, with Dennis Robinson as musical director.
Bev Robinson is stage manager of the production.
Single
tickets are $12. Discounts are available for students, seniors and
groups of 20 or more. For reservations or more information, call the
Little Theatre box office at 508-675-1852.
