Note
from the Director:
I have been asked many
times about the appropriate age for actors appearing in RENT. This show contains
adult situations, strong language, and mature themes. I am looking to cast
actors who are age appropriate for its storyline. Jonathan Larson, the author
and composer of this amazing piece of art, was 36 years old when RENT premiered,
as well as when he passed away. He wrote about his friends, acquaintances, and
about himself. I have been blessed to have spoken with one of Jon’s personal
friends about his concept, and I desperately want to stay true to his vision.
RENT was Jon’s reality.
Therefore, to answer the
question: “Am I too old?” or “Am I too young?”…I am requesting that actors be
able to portray
20’s to late 30’s. There is
always room for adjustment and I will adjust if necessary. I do not want to
specifically note an age restriction, but I do ask that you use common sense. If
you know that you do not portray the above mentioned age range, we respectfully
ask that you do not audition. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
