will be asked to read from the script.
Roles:
11 monologues for women of various ages:
1. FIFTEEN MINUTES – an actress in her dressing room, preparing for her performance.
2. SCRAPS – a woman in a patchwork costume; button eyes, yarn hair, pearls for teeth (the Patch Girl of Oz)
3. CLEAR GLASS MARBLES – a woman tells us about the day her mother found out she was dying and the significance of the glass marbles.
4. AUDITION – A young actress at her audition – the audience are her audition judges.
5. RODEO – A young woman, her name: Big Eight (you have to stay on that bucking horse for eight seconds).
6. TWIRLER – A woman in a spangled single piece swimsuit tells us about her life as a baton twirler.
7. LAMPS – The stage is filled with lamps. A 65 year old woman moves through the room telling us her story as she extinguishes each lamp.
8. HANDLER – A young woman sits on the floor with a wooden box and tells us about her life as a snake handler (Yes, we will be having audition(s) for a non-poisonous, non-aggressive reptile).
9. DRAGONS – A young woman, nine months pregnant, on a hospital gurney, talks us through her delivery.
10. FRENCH FRIES – An old woman sits in a straight back chair holding a McDonald’s cup. Her one wish – to live in a McDonalds.
11. MARKS – A woman sitting on a bar stool explains the
origin of a facial scar and her tattoos.
