Little Theatre of Fall River readies a classic comedy

The classic comedy "You Can't Take It With You" will open Little Theatre of Fall River's Firebarn season Friday.
The Pulitzer Prize-winning play, written by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman, will be presented at the Firebarn, Little Theatre's home at Prospect Street and Highland Avenue.
At first the Sycamores seem mad, but it's not long before we realize that if they are mad, the rest of the world as depicted in "You Can't Take It With You" is madder.

The comedy's plot shows how Tony, the young son of the Kirbys, falls in love with Alice Sycamore and brings his parents to dine on the wrong evening. Included in this madcap family are amateur playwrights, a novice ballerina, two manufacturers of fireworks, an income tax-evading grandfather, and an ex-grand duchess. Will Tony Kirby be won over to the happy madness of the wacky Sycamore household?
J.C. Wallace directs the Little Theatre production. A theater teacher at Cranston East High School in Rhode Island, his directorial credits include "Jesus Christ Superstar" and "Play It Again, Sam." The production is stage managed by Karyn Valcourt.
Included in the cast are Ken Carrier, Gunther DeManelian, Ed Costa, Bonnie DeManelian, Roger Fournier, Donna Cook, Dennis Smith, Linda Tarricone, Stephen Oliveira, Kelly Camara, Jason Rosenstein, Suzie Gardiner, Michelle Gold, Bill Knight, David Faria and Shandy Monte.
"This is one of the great American comedies," said Mr. Wallace. "In addition, it is a great way to spend a summer night. It's light enough to laugh at, yet it inspires us to see all that is beautiful in the world."
"You Can't Take It With You" will be staged at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 17 through 19, and at 7 p.m. this Sunday and June 20. Single tickets are $10, and discounts are available for students, seniors and groups of 20 or more. Subscription packages for three and four Firebarn shows are available.

For reservations and information, call the Little Theatre box office at (508) 675- 1852.
