Bend & Snap

Bend & Snap

Jessalyn Sadler Correa

“Throw it up,” “switch back,” and “add a pop,” are the kind of phrases you’ll hear at a rehearsal for the Little Theatre of Fall River’s spring Mainstage musical, Legally Blonde.

Director Aaron Gendreau-Visco, choreographer JennBellanti, and guest choreographer, Rachelle Dubois, work with cast members to “bend and snap” in all the right places.

During a rehearsal for the Legally Blonde Remix, cast members throw themselves into a routine of Irish step dancing which is foreign to most of the performers. Counting, kicking, and sweating are a must in order to wow audiences come spring. The vision is almost reminiscent of A Chorus Line in that the actors are clad in spandex and sneakers while practicing their complex dance routine. I hear a bit of singing, giggling, and a lot of panting as I enter the engine room of the Fire Barn. When asked how everyone keeps in shape, one cast member pipes up in jest, “by eating doughnuts!” As you can tell, the rehearsal process for this show is nothing but fun!

Adapted for the Broadway stage, Legally Blonde: The Musical, is a show packed with high energy and lots of laughs. Based on the novel by Amanda Brown and the popular Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer motion picture with Reese Witherspoon, Legally Blonde: The Musical is upbeat and fun for the entire family.

The cast is comprised of a varied group of individuals – young, mature, new, and not so new to Little Theatre. It’s fun to see such a mix of performers coming together to provide a great theater experience to the community. It is wonderful to see more senior members of the group sharing their love of performing with others. Conversely, the young talent in the cast is unmatched.

Longtime LTFR member Michael Coury eagerly admits, “I’m an old vet who is doing a cameo. And when did I ever become somebody’s dad?”

Deborah Sadler, also a LTFR member for many years, after feverishly practicing her “seven step” and “hitch kick” asks, “How do we look?”

OMIGOD! I think to myself. Just fabulous!
